Quilotoa, 2024
Ecuador

Quilotoa is located at 3,900 meters above sea level, this volcano encloses a lagoon within its crater. It holds an unimaginable flora nourished by its rich mineral waters.

Its surface shifts with the sunlight — emerald, turquoise, blue.

According to local legend, it swallows the white men who descend into its waters. The author and hermit of the Andes, Johnny Lovewisdom, lived on the volcano for more than two years, as he recounts in Ecstatic Recreation Through Paradisiacal Living.

The water of the volcano is medicinal. It has long been used to treat skin conditions, metabolic disorders, and diseases of the digestive system, thanks to its abundant mineral elements.

The territory is alive — it is medicine. The creation of a sacred space lies among our mountains, in the mutual recognition of life. This is an exploration of territory that approaches the image as subtle thought, as visual meditation.

Observe each photograph from the inside out, and our unity with the earth unfolds.
