Estela, 2020-2025
+Arte, Quito, Ecuador
Estela is an ongoing photographic and botanical series that positions menstruation as a site of epistemological inquiry, embodied resistance, and cyclical healing. The artist documents her hormonal journey—marked by ovarian surgery, prolonged use of contraceptives, and the search for alternatives through plant-based practices aligned with lunar cycles. Using cyanotype on paper stained with her own menstrual blood, she reclaims a stigmatized bodily substance as a medium of creation. Estela unfolds as a visual and material language that bridges corporeal knowledge with natural rhythms, challenging normative discourses on reproductive health and reframing the menstruating body as a locus of care, agency, and transformation.
