Autorretrato, 2020
NAVE, Quito, Ecuador
Autorretrato was developed during an arts residency at NAVE. It is an audio-visual installation that interlaces literature, voice, and collective affect. Drawing from Sanguínea by Gabriela Ponce—a visceral meditation on heartbreak and intimate rupture—the artist reassembled fragments into a new narrative, refracted through her own experience. This recording was shared with friends and family, who translated emotion into drawing. These layered responses coalesced into a single composite image—a visual palimpsest of shared vulnerability.
Installed with a mirror, the image, and an iPod playing the same audio, Autorretrato invites viewers into a space where personal and collective grief are seen, heard, and mirrored.
