Antifragility, 2017/2018
London/Quito

Antifragility is my adaptive response to threat, as Bessel van der Kolk states, this is “basic to human survival”.

Through the power bestowed by my camera, I become an agent in my own rescue through representation, a life-saving representation. I try to imagine new experiences with the male body and its meaning to my psyche and nervous system.

I keep organizing my life around trauma, I am aware, scared of looking too deeply; it stays unchanged.

I try to maintain control over the experience, regain my senses.

I take space, I am awake, I speak loudly.

I direct, move, and order; their bodies follow. I choose the angle, the lighting, the mood, I establish the rules, and manufacture the scene.

The threat no longer exists.
