Algo Sobre Otra Cosa
Photography as trace, as a possible fragment of a more complex reality, and as a language that leans toward the metaphors of abstraction, allows the artist to condense multiple impressions —experiences, moments, places— within a single image. Through analog double exposure, Loaiza’s works oscillate between unfinished memories, arranged to be narratively reconfigured. Within them, echoes of experiences whose meaning remains ambiguous resound: through what is undefined, the artist seeks to reimagine the female body, prompting the viewer to question not only what is visible but also what remains discreet, suspended within the image.
What unfolds, then, is a reflection on the photographic language itself. Blur and overexposure become perceptual stimuli, opening the image to multiple interpretations and sensorial readings.
Among the experiences evoked are wanderings across the local geography to which the artist returns after her studies abroad. The luminous textures that surface in her photographs express a careful, almost tactile approach to the places she inhabits and revisits. Subtle traces of Pedro Vicente Maldonado, Nanegalito, Cotopaxi, the Amazon, and the beaches of Ecuador’s coast emerge —unrecognizable, transformed into visual rather than territorial references, and equally affective ones. These traces outline the more intimate contours of her work.
The exhibition at +Arte marks Loaiza’s first solo presentation within the local art scene. Her practice resonates with the search for renewed representations of femininity, beyond politicized frameworks. Her exploration of the photographic medium invites us to consider non-discursive approaches to this theme, and to the aesthetic forms through which new sensibilities might find expression.
